May Book Club Wrap Up + Author Interview

Hello book lovers!9781925972597-scaled

For our May Book Club we read and discussed The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this one, and I personally loved it. It was brilliant and well written the entire way through and the story completely captured my attention.
This novel will stay with me for a long time and I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t.

There was so much packed into this one book and it gave us great material to discuss.
Once again we held book club via Zoom and it was lovely to catch up with everyone again.

Hopefully we will be able to go back to in person meet ups soon but for now we think it is still safest to host them online.

I was lucky enough to be able to interview Pip Williams and ask a few questions about The Dictionary of Lost Words. Continue reading

January Book Club Wrap Up + Author Interview

Hello book lovers!
It has been a little while since we have posted , the Christmas season is always a busy time of year!
Book club has still been running once a month and in case you missed it our last two books for 2019 were: The Sea & Us by Catherine de Saint Phalle and The Bee and the Orange Tree by Melissa Ashley.

Well-behaved Women

Both books were pretty much unanimously liked by everyone and we had a great time discussing them.
Our first book for 2020 was Well-behaved Women by Emily Paull.

This one was hard to judge as it is a collection of short stories and people loved some of the stories but weren’t as fussed on others. There were definitely quite a few in there that I personally loved and one thing everyone agreed on was that they got better and better as the book went on. Continue reading

October Book Club Wrap Up + Author Interview

Hello fellow book lovers!
I am excited to be bringing you another book club wrap up and author interview. I know it comes right after the September one I posted last night but I wanted to get this out to you all before we meet on Saturday.

Last month the Cosy Reading Book Club met on the 12th of October to once again discuss their book of the month. The book for October was The Breeding Season by Amanda Niehaus. The Breeding Season.jpeg

This was a very intense and emotional book which definitely made us think and even sometimes made you uncomfortable in the way that confronting art often does.

Hello book lovers! Apologies on the delay in getting this out to you all! With a big name like Becky Chambers as our September book it took a little bit longer for the author interview to come back. But it now has and I am so excited to share it with you!

On Saturday the 14th of September The Cosy Reading Book Club once again met to discuss their book of the month. The book for September was To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky ChambersTo Be Taught If Fortunate

This was our first time doing a science fiction novel for book club and I for one loved it! I know I wasn’t the only one but I also think there were a few people who were pleasantly surprised by this one and the interesting questions it posed.

This was an exciting month for book club as we welcomed a whole bunch of new attendees and opened up a second session for book club, it is now held at both 3.00pm and 5.00pm.

July Book Club Wrap Up + Author Interview

The Cosy Reading Book Club met in store for their monthly book club on Friday the 13th of July and discussed the book, Crossings by Alex Landragin.crossings cover

This was a great book to discuss as a group as there are two different ways the book can be read. It was interesting to see how everyone’s experience of the book differed depending on how they read it.

The book can be read front to back as three short stories or in the ‘Baroness sequence’ which takes you on an interweaving journey back and forth through the book to tell one story. For example if you read the book in the Baroness sequence you started on page 150 and after reading four pages you jumped to page 39.

But the great thing we discovered with this book is that no matter how it was read everybody loved it!
Which isn’t always the case with our book club books. A lot of the time the group can be split on loving it or not so it is exciting when a book captures us all.
